There are a crazy amount of rules for when to appropriately use a comma in your writing. Want to learn a trick? Read your writing aloud, and whenever you come to a natural pause, add a comma.
"Then I'm there and I'm looking in through the glass in the door to the listening room and I'm glad I came. She's sitting there right where she was yesterday her long fingers hovering above the keys of her laptop head tilted to one side listening. She's got on a dark green sweater and some reddish corduroy pants. There's a thin strand of pearls around her neck. She looks dressed up prettier than ever. Somebody knows what looks good on this girl." -Things Not Seen
